I took some time off from writing over the holidays. But now it’s a new year, and you may be happy to know that one of my resolutions is to write more. So here we go…
I had a blast this Christmas. I enjoyed having time off work, spending time with my family, and just plain relaxing. It was what Christmas, in my mind, should be. But I must say, one of the best parts about Christmas this year was the food. And oh, was there plenty.
I planned on using my willpower to get me through the shortbread cookies, midnight mints, mocha Nanaimo bars and many others – and it did work for the first couple days. But on Christmas day, my willpower flew out the window alongside bags of wrapping paper from the gift-opening that morning. I definitely over-indulged on pre-Christmas dinner treats and used the “it’s Christmas!” mantra to justify it. After that, it was all downhill for about 5 days. Bring on the truffles and the fluffy loaves of white bread. It’s Christmas, and I can do whatever I want.
Whoops.
Thankfully I was spending Christmas at my parent’s house. My Mom loves going for walks every day, and therefore, by extension, so did I. However, I wouldn’t really classify it as a “walk.” I would call it “move as fast as you possibly can without breaking out into a run.” So we walked when the weather allowed us, and I attribute that to the fact that I only gained 1 pound over Christmas break.
I knew deep down I would never be able to maintain weight loss over Christmas. I would have been over-the-moon to maintain my current weight, but I’ll accept 1 pound. In fact, I think it’s appropriate since I should have to work extra hard to make up for that second helping of mashed potatoes and gravy.
I’ll do a full weigh-in post on Wednesday, as usual, and hopefully I will have made some progress towards dropping that pound. I leave for Mexico in 26 days (uh-oh that sounds a lot sooner when I write it down), so I am going to be making a big push in the next 3 and a half weeks.
Oh, and I have to also mention the turkey we ate on Christmas, because it deserves a special mention. My Dad went to pick it up from a nearby farm and we could not believe our eyes when we saw it for the first time.
It was 34 pounds. It barely fit in the oven. It took over 10 hours to cook.
But boy oh boy was it ever delicious.
